I found myself a fitting prayer in the Psalms a few weeks back. In case anyone else out there has problems with life getting pulled in all directions, I wanted to share part of it here:
"
Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name." (Psalm 86:11, KJV, emphasis added)
Unlike the classified ad prayers in my boyhood newspaper, I make no guarantees of health or wealth if you pray this four times a day to St. Ritalinus. The
whole psalm is an example to me both in humility and in boldness. It shows adoration for our God whose works are incomparable, but also a persistence in seeking His blessing. The psalm at one point simply states: God is God alone. I often live by the unbiblical "The Lord helps those who help themselves" misadvice, rather than
praying continuously as I was admonished today. Since God alone can provide, I need to go to God more often and more earnestly with praise and with requests for all I lack
